To be quite Honest is pretty dam good fuel econ. I prosume there is a fair bit of town driving envolved, my used to get 32 in mixed town and urban.
Oh yeah! I knew I would forget something Its my super slow one fingered typing and if I take too long the dam thing crashes on me. Thanks, for the compliments guys! It is very funny how big the mini community is, I got this e-mail today. Dear Terry, Hope Ur doing gr Regards, Ali Noor I don't really know how to respond to this lad I agree with the previous post this usually happens when the flywheel has been off before and has not been put back on correctly, will deal with that in a minute but the thing to do is this have done this loads of times and it always works for me.
Get the puller as tight as it will possibly go not to tight as the head shears off the centre bolt have done that to many times as well then with a lump hammer hit the back of the flywheel through the starter motor hole. Dont use a lump of wood as it absorbs to much shock, then rotate the wheel 90 degrees whack again do this 4 times then give the puller bolt another turn and repeat and I will guarantee it will come off.
This has worked on flywheels that have been well and truly welded on to the point where I have had to scrap the crank. Know when it comes to refitting the flywheel get some valve grinding paste smear some on the end of the crank taper and put the flywheel on and twist it from side to side remove and check to see that this has rubbed the whole circumferance of the taper if not repeat once you have done this ensure that you remove all the paste from the end of the crank and inside the flywheel then put the flywheel back on.
Tighten to lbs ft then smack the end of the flywheel with a hammer and repeat do this until you cant tighten any more after hitting it. This will prevent the flywheel from lapping to the end of the crank and will be a dammed site easier to remove the next time.
Vizard recomends heating the flywheel before hand as well but to remove after you need to use a hydraulic ram. But they are not legal on a car made after Is this true? Dam shame if so. Anyone know what size the retaining nut is? Cant see a dam thing in there!
Haynes, you get to it by a hole in the subframe. MSSK this kit is good tryied this transformed handling. I believe it is from a engine however am not sure as it came with MK2 Shell that I have as a project and I would like to know for sure. Ingbert Germany. Speedo drive gears Hello Steve The correct speedo drive gears for 12 wheels and 3. Clarke posts J. Re Oh yeah! The original Minis gears were known as cone type synchromesh, which had a brass baulk ring fitted to the gear. At the end of the 4 synchromesh gearbox was introduced, which had all different gears and ratios.
The bearing housing at the clutch end of the gearbox case, which housed the 1st motion shaft roller bearing was machined THINNER on the inside of the gearbox case to help accommodate the extra 1st gear. Beginning of the remote gear lever housing extensions were replaced by two external rods, hence the name rod change gearbox Internally the three selector shafts were replaced by one.
These were cut at a different tooth angle making the gears less noisy with different ratios again. About the centre main double roller retainer was changed from 4 holes to 3 holes as the case tended to crack where one of the locating holes for the retainer was drilled.

Product Alert Stay updated to what's new and popular on the market. It is worth noting that identifying your gearbox might provide a very good clue to the real age of your Mini, as many registrations can be a bit scrambled with the cars being imported from all over the world.
The real bonus is that it will likely cost less than trying to find obsolete old parts, and the improvement in drivability is like night and day! The Magic Wand. This is easy to identify because the shifter comes out of the floor way up front, just to the right of the gas pedal if you have a left-hand drive car. In recent years, with the value of proper restorations heading north, the magic-wand has made a bit of a comeback, and Mini Mania can build you a custom 4-synchro gearbox using your magic-wand differential housing adapted to the 4-synchro case.
The Remote. It contained the shift-rod that allowed repositioning the shifter itself just in front of the cross-member that the front seat brackets bolt up to.
The early ones until around were still mostly 3-synchro gearboxes. That means first gear had no synchronizer, so would not engage smoothly with the car rolling. You can tell that the shifter mounts solid to the engine unit, and this design is favored by many because of the wide footprint of the power-unit in the sub-frame and body.
Front-wheel drive cars can be hard on engine mounts, especially with more powerful engines. The Rod Change. This greatly simplified the gearbox with a huge reduction in the number of parts, increasing durability and an improved shifter connection to a stub-shaft and anchor-rod at the differential cover. This is also easy to identify in that the shifter has its own housing, completely separate from the transmission case.
The shifter location is the same as the Remote style, coming out of the floor just in front of the seat cross member. This design continued until the end of production, spanning more than 25 years of Minis. It is not uncommon to find early cars that have been updated with a late rod-change gearbox, as they are arguably the strongest of the breed for high power engines.
The Axles The standard axles for the first 15 years or so of the Mini featured an inner u-joint that connected to the differential output yoke. The standard drum brakes and swivel hubs we might call them spindlesused an outer CV constant-velocity joint to allow a range of travel for suspension and steering while driving the front wheels. This style had a coarse spline on the inner axle shaft so it would only work with the inner u-joint slip-yokes on the early transmissions.
High performance Cooper S Models came with front disk brakes and a larger outer CV joint to work with the specific swivel hubs for disk brakes. This style is favored by racers as the easiest for engine removal, and the strongest axles, with larger diameters, splines, and differential seals. Luckily, when the Rod-change came along in the early 70s, the axles got updated to what is essentially the modern design, using a six-axis inner constant velocity joint that alleviated the binding of the inner u-joint four-axis at maximum suspension travel.
This is one of the best upgrades to consider for your Mini, as parts cost less, availability is better, and the modern design is more durable for powerful engines. It is very likely that your Mini already has these CV style axles as all Rod-change cars from about onward came with them, and most Minis with any upgrades to the engine, transmission, suspension, or brakes may well have them too!
You can easily identify the axles on your Mini by looking under the front of the car or down behind the carb. Your Login Failed. Your E-Mail and or password are incorrect.Restoration of 2 way out mini gearbox -Restore Japan gearbox old
